Spring Band Concert

Abby had her Spring Band Concert tonight. Her school has a great band and choir department, and you can tell how hard the kids work all year when you hear them play and sing.  Just got a couple of pictures before we headed out.

8 more days of school! YEAH! Fingers crossed the weather is going to WARM UP!

Busy Busy Busy

Yikes, we've been busy these last couple weeks.  Baseball, figure skating, girl scouts, birthday parties, swimming, and general running around.  We all are ready for summer vacay to begin!!

Abby had her year end girl scout activity the other week. It was a mystery play type thing - each girl received a part in the play. They had to try to solve the mystery - who stole the Oscar award.  Abby's part in the play was an actress named Angelina Josephina.  She, along with all the other girls, loved this.  It was really fun to see them get dressed up, act out their parts and try to solve "who done it"! (that's Hannah in there too, in her green and black leotard.  They let her join in the fun since she was with me.  She was Megan Mix-Alot....a stunt actress!)

We borrowed this dress from our neighbor whose daughter dances. Abby did not want to give it back! And how about those $3.00 silver Goodwill kitten heels :-)

Hannah "graduated" from Daisys to Brownies last night.  They have a special ceremony for the girls. She is excited to be a Brownie next year. She also loved the brownie sundae treat she had at the celebration! (standing, 2nd from left)

Griff has been TRYING to play baseball this spring. It's been AWFUL weather for the boys.  They've had so many cancelled practices and games. I feel badly for them. Below are his team pictures that were taken a couple of weeks ago.

Griff and his best buddies. Helps to have Dad as a coach ... he can stack the team with friends :-)

Two more weeks of school and then we are OFF for summer! Can't wait...hoping that our weather warms up and we have another warm summer like last year. We are all looking forward to spending time outside, biking, beaching it, pooling it, and just hanging out :-)

garage hockey before school

spins

jumps......

Time for a Kid Update.....and hopefully a fixed figure skating video.....

Haven't done a kid update in awhile, so here goes. Also tried to fix the video issue we were having with Abby's figure skating...I've posted new videos, hopefully they work. ARRRGGG not fixed....working on it!!!

Abby
* Is very into books that are part of a series. She is just finishing up the Witch & Wizard series by James Patterson.  She still loves the wizard books :-)
* Loves playing the Sax and is excited to continue playing next year.
* Has been working hard at her skating. She has another competition coming up in June that she is excited about.
* Is having fun playing garage hockey with Mike and Griff....I'm wondering if we may have to sign her up for hockey in the fall!  Oh, and she shoots lefty......
* Has popcorn EVERY SINGLE NIGHT before bed!

Hannah
* Is taking after Abby and is reading up a storm. She loves books about animals.
* Is a huge animal lover. She doesn't mind going to Griff's baseball games b/c there are always tons of dogs there she can pet and play with.
* Is doing great in her swim class. I am hoping that she will want to sign up for the swim team in August. She's not much of a joiner, so we'll see.
* Is still our artist. She makes a picture or drawing for someone every day.
* Eats peppers - red, yellow, orange - all day long. She takes them as her snack at school. I'm sure her desk mates love that smell!
* Both she and Griff love the World Record Books. They take them out of the library all the time and read us random facts.

Griffin
* Has "talk time" with Mike every night. When I'm putting Hannah to bed, he sneaks downstairs to chat with Mike on the couch. Not sure what they talk about....it's a secret :-) He does it every night, without fail.
* LOVES hockey....ice hockey, garage hockey, street hockey.  He just wants to play hockey!
* Is doing baseball right now....not sure how he feels about it yet. Not his favorite sport, I can tell.  But Mike's coaching, so he plays it!
* Would watch the Blackhawks playing hockey on  youtube all day long if I let him, but curiously.......
* will not watch them playing live hockey on tv. He gets too nervous!

Jumps and Spins

Abby's in an advanced jump class for figure skating this session. It's a good class for her.  Here are a couple of videos from last night's class. She is working on her axle (I think...or lutz??) and some another jump in the first video and her back spin in the second video. The back spin is tough; none of the girls really have it down yet.

All of the girls look alike in her class....all black and pony tails :-)  Abby's hair is the shortest and she's wearing a yellow flower barrette in her hair. I track her as best as I can.  See if you get dizzy watching her skate in circles - I do!

Street Hockey....

....or maybe garage hockey. This is Griff's new passion. Every morning before school, immediately after school, and all weekend he wants to play hockey in the garage. We bought a new hockey net and some cheap sticks for everyone and they can't stop playing. Mike has all sorts of games made up for them, along with plays written in chalk on the garage floor. It's pretty hard core :-)  They are loving it, Griff especially.

Here is a video before school last Friday. He loves lifting the puck into the net.

Here are some pictures from this afternoon. The weather has finally turned for the better and we had sunny skies and temps in the 60s today. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it holds!

It's a nice looks he's got going on, huh?

And Miss Hannah riding her bike and doing tricks!  Abby was inside doing homework, so no pictures of her today.

May 1 and First Baseball Practice

Let's start with the good news......Griff had his first baseball practice on Monday and he loved it.  He's got a great team (lots of school friends on it) and a great coach (Dad :-), and everyone seems to have a bit more skill this year.  And it's machine pitch, which is cool.  All of which makes for a fun way to spend a beautiful spring night in MN .....

The kids meeting each other and the coaches. Mike is coaching with a Dad of one of Griff's very good friends.  The other two assistant coaches are also Dads of friends, so it's working out great for everyone!

A throwing drill. Griff is all the way over to the right, in the black Blackhawks (Go Hawks!) hat and humongous blue t-shirt.
 A fielding drill.

A spontaneous pick up game with the other team practicing at the same field. I missed it, but Griff hit his very first pitch. He couldn't wait to tell me about it when I got home from skating with Abby.

See the beautiful spring night we had on Monday.......

The bad news is that Griff will miss his second practice of the season tonight, due to the SEVERE WINTER STORM WARNING and the 6 - 8 inches of snow that is expected throughout today and this evening.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  This is what it looks like outside....actually, these were taken a 1/2 hour ago. It's worse now.

Okay, I had to take another picture just to show you all how unbelievable this is. Can you see our green grass? Of course not, it's covered in SNOW. On May 1.

Between this incredibly insane weather and our lovely Governor's desire to increase our (already high) state income tax, we may be out of this state before you can say Adios. Texas is looking pretty good right about now......
